PRESS: Russian ministry seeks to raise fines for flight delays

MOSCOW, Sep 5 (PRIME) -- The Transport Ministry plans to propose amendments to the Russian aviation code that would raise the size of penalties for flight delays and cancellations, Izvestia newspaper reported on Tuesday citing the ministry.

“…the size of fines is supposed to be established in accordance with the international practice –depending on the range of flight and the number of hours of delay,” the ministry said.

Before making a final decision the ministry plans to discuss the initiative with airlines and experts.

Under the current legislation, passengers are paid compensation of 25 rubles per hour of a flight delay and are also provided with hot meal, drinks, a phone call, and with a hotel if the delay is over six hours.
